Sony expands productions switcher line at NAB 2011

Apr 10, 2011

New MVS-7000X delivers 3G and 3D capabilities with flexible configuration options for mid-range applications

Sony is unveiling the latest addition to its MVS Series of production switchers – the multi-format MVS-7000X. The new switcher is designed for a wide range of applications and while delivering similar high-end performance to its predecessor, the MVS-8000X, at a more cost effective price. Together with the MVS-8000G and MVS-6000, the new switchers deliver a broad range of solutions for every budget in both live and post-production environments.

“The MVS-7000X is a native 3G switcher and inherits many of the powerful features from the MVS-8000X,” said Claus Pfeifer, Strategic Marketing Manager, Sony Professional, Sony Europe. “It can be easily configured from 1 to 6 MEs, with split ME capability, and, depending on the configuration, provide up to 8 keyers per ME with a 2.5D re-sizer for each keyer. As a result, users can start with a small compact frame, and expand as their requirements change, giving them the flexibility they need.”

Through the use of a powerful mix/effect mode selection feature, the MVS-7000X can be configured to meet user requirements with the minimal purchase of mix/effects hardware. Users can add up to four channels of internal MVE-9000-level effects and the switcher can be configured with up to 80 inputs and 48 outputs in a compact 8-rack unit frame. It supports high-quality stereoscopic 3D production and, for the highest picture quality, it also supports 1080p/50 production, enabling users to take full advantage of HD production with features such as transition and keyer.

To further simplify 3D production workflow, Sony offers a highly sophisticated system solution that combines the MPE-200 multi-image processor with the optional MPES-3D01 software for the control of 3D rigs and electronic stereo-image processing.

Additionally, all MVS switchers support Sony’s Programmable Effector application for the MPE-200, which delivers striking visual effects with real-time rendering of 3D computer graphic images and combining with up to four live video inputs. This also improves production workflows by eliminating the need to re-render visual effects when last minute modifications are required in a studio control room or OB truck environments.

Other optional additions include the MKS-7470X DME Board Set and MKS-7471X DME Board with BZS-7560X/7561X for 3D programme production. Dual link signals can be handled as a single source, without need for specific settings for each link.

Due to their common architecture, MVS-8000X, MVS-7000X, MVS-8000G/GSF and MVS-6000 switchers share the same control panels, remote panels, and peripherals. All of these switchers can be enhanced with two optional software packages: a plug-in editor, and system manager software. This shared design offers several benefits including minimal operator training when transitioning to the latest hardware; and cost effective migration paths to the latest technology.

Other features of the MVS-7000X include:

  • Built-in Format Converter
  • 2-channel multi-viewer outputs
  • Enhanced Frame Memory
  • Hugh performance colour corrector
  • Customisable control panel
  • Intelligent Tally Function
The MVS-7000X is expected to be available this summer.
