Power of Images, London UK: At today’s UK POI event in London, Sony Professional previewed a resolution independent multi-format Ingest and Transcoder platform. Based on cell-processor technology with up to 128 cores per workstation, the platform can be configured to meet the challenging needs of today’s broadcasters and post-production facilities.
Sony’s Multi-Format Ingest & Transcoder can simultaneously ingest content from up to four HD VTR’s (four sampling 4:2:2 or two sampling 4:4:4 signals) in parallel. Depending on the desired workflow, users can chose to deliver this content directly to their shared storage sites using many of today’s popular file formats including MXF, DPX, J2k and Avid DNxHD.
The platform can also be configured as a dedicated transcoding solution for both source and target material using a variety of file-based methods. Like the ingest process, the platform can process a diverse range of file formats with resolutions ranging from proxy right up to 4K, using tools including advanced render queue management, metadata exchange and automated Quality Control (QC).
Furthermore, Sony’s Multi-Format Ingest & Transcoder can manage both ingest and transcoding processes simultaneously by intelligently managing its allocation of resources between real-time (ingest) and non real-time (transcoding) activities.
By harnessing the raw power of cell processors, Sony Professional has developed a platform which can deliver functionality and speed which was until now impossible to achieve.
