Top Italian comedy show shot on HDCAM

A film version of a hit Italian comedy show featuring a trio of performers, Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo, has been shot on high definition. The film, Anplagghed, has been shot with Sony studio cameras recording on to HDCAM by the Italian company, Guicar Srl. This production and post production house, based in Milan, was established in 1963 and has been pioneering the use of HD in recent years.

Anplagghed is the film version of the live theatrical show by highly popular comic trio Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo. It was directed by Rinaldo Gaspari and recorded on HDCAM. The theatrical performance of this unique trio focuses on everyday life in metropolis suburbs, featuring a large number of characters.

“Thanks to an agreement with Italian Swiss Television, we had the opportunity to use the Sony HD1 OB truck from tpc, Switzerland’s largest broadcast production company,” says director, Rinaldo Gaspari,. “I always choose Sony camcorders because they mean reliability and extreme quality to me. Sony broadcast solutions are suitable for heavy duty use and I know I can rely on them in every situation. Using Sony allows me to entirely focus on the artistic aspect, avoiding any concern on the technical side. For many years, I have been highlighting the great opportunity offered by the HD products, as an alternative to standard filming process. Producer Paolo Guerra and I shared the same approach and together, we chose the new format for this project. In particular, we chose Sony HDC-1500 and HDC-1000 studio cameras to film the show and the result is an absolute quality film.”

With its ability to efficiently capture images as well as provide output that simplified an otherwise complicated post-production process, Sony HD cameras provided the best solution for the show. "We rely on technology that can produce high quality content quickly and efficiently for our viewers,” says Aldo Dalessio, CEO of Guicar.

“HD is the next generation of TV and the choice of HD is a good investment for the future.” For such a complex production process, the Sony HD cameras provided the best format to simplify and speed up post production and make the entire process more efficient. Reliability, the ease of recording, image quality and cost effectiveness were decisive in turning the artistic and production challenge of the show into a success.
